Know Yourself as Eternal, Non-changing and Absolute

Image
As we walk through life we see the constant change around us as everything follows its natural life cycle. Our body is no exception; it is constantly changing growing and evolving. Yet the person within the body, that silent witness to all we experience, has an eternal quality of something much greater and more permanent that who or what we think we are. CLICK ME FIRST BEFORE YOU READ MY ARTICLE! In our quite moments when we are walking or sitting with nature, our feelings reach out and connect and touch a deeper layer of our heart and soul. We become in union with that hidden force that orders the whole of creation. We can be one with this field of love, this presence of the divine, which is within us and surrounding us in each moment of our lives. All we need to do is just be present and our awareness will naturally settle and become one with its divine nature. We leave behind our physical nature and connect with that presence of love that underlies the phys...

A Crash Course On Understanding Financial Statements

Image
Businesses operate to achieve various goals. To meet these goals a business must achieve two primary objectives: To earn a satisfactory profit and to remain solvent (be able to pay its debts). If a business fails to meet either of these primary objectives, it will not be able to survive in the long run. Financial statements are accounting reports used to summarize and communicate financial information about a business. Three major financial statements - the income statement, the statement of changes in financial position, and the balance sheet - are used to report information about the business's primary objectives. These financial statements are the end result of the accounting process. Each of them summarizes certain information that has been identified, measured, recorded, and retained during the accounting process. Income Statement: An income statement is a financial statement summarizing the results of a business's earnings activities for a specific period of time. It ...

Doing Things By Halves

By: Davina deWitts I do things by halves. Sometimes, if I'm lucky I'll get 80% done before I allow myself to get distracted, just stopping short of completion. Just look inside my wardrobe and see the amount of things completed to 80%. Unfinished bags I've started sewing, knitted scarves with the knitting needles still threaded through, unsent postcards that are too old to post, a half assed filing system (the stuff that needs to be filed is in a big fat pile next to the phone). Look inside my email account and see 10 draft copies of letters I've been meaning to send (one is dated back to a year ago), and other countless emails I've left unread with the intention to read and reply. If I do eventually finish something, the pressure has to come from an external source (like a boss (which I don't have at the moment), or an irrevocable deadline). But even then, the journey to completion certainly isn't a pretty one. It's sorta like carrying a whinging child...

Prayer that shocked the nation

Note: I received this story in an email this morning. I'm publishing this here so I can share it with the readership. When Minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual generalities, but this is what they heard: "Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot anti-abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have pol...

Why Do We Have to Recycle Grocery Bags?

Filipinos never learned it's lesson from the catastrophic Ondoy ! When undas is over, so many garbage were littered in every cemetery here in Metro Manila. As if we didn't know the effect of those non-biodegrable plastic bags to the environment. We've been told about its harmful effect towards the environment countless of times but we Filipinos simply ignore it. The flood brought about by tropical storm Ondoy is supposedly enough to remind us that we must learn from the effect of our action. But while we are still in the process to recover from the catastrophe, again we are back into our habit of disposing garbage especially used plastics irresponsibly. Now, do we really have solution for this? My suggestion is that we should reuse (read: recycle) those plastic bags! Our purpose in using recycled bags is to protect the environment. In doing so, we may be able to reduce the amount of plastic grocery bags that end up in landfills, Laguna Lake, Pasig River, and in the seas....

RP braces as another typhoon hits the country on All Saint's Day

Philippine authorities said Friday they were preparing for the worst as a typhoon was set to hit the nation's capital and nearby areas still reeling from storms that claimed more than 1,100 lives. Four more provinces in southern Luzon and the Bicol region have been placed under Storm Signal No. 3 as typhoon “Santi” accelerates while continuing to zoom in closer to Quezon province, the weather bureau said yesterday (Oct. 30). "Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under signals #3, #2 and #1 are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against flashfloods and landslides," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. The weather bureau also warned those living along coastal areas to watch out for storm surges and big waves generated by the typhoon. More of the weather report here: Typhoon forecast to slam into Philippine capital Signal No. 3 up in 5 areas as 'Santi' accelera...

Brad Pitt's 'floating house' will work here in the Philippines

Hollywood celebrity Brad Pitt and his Make It Right (MIR) Foundation set about building environmentally-friendly and sustainable housing for affected families in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina pummeled the Southwestern coast of the United States in 2006. Make it Right Foundation aims to build over 150 houses within 14 blocks using "green" design principles pitched by architectural firms all over the world. This is supposed to fulfill the promise Pitt made residents in the area: that he would help them build a stronger and safer neighborhood. For the rest of the story, please read from ABS-CBN News here: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/abs/20091019/tph-brad-pitt-s-floating-house-can-work-85c5a6c.html . Meanwhile, we can only hope that typhoon Ramil won't cause much devastation to our country unlike typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

The Only Hope for the Philippines

by Father James Reuter, S.J. Note: I found this message in my mailbox this morning. This originally came from a Yahoo Group I am presently subscribing. By her own admission, GMA (Gloria Macapagal Arroyo) rightfully assessed that over the last decades; our republic has become one of the weakest, steadily left behind by its more progressive neighbors.' Forty years ago, we were only second to Japan in economic stature, and way ahead of Singapore , Hong Kong , Malaysia , and Thailand . Today, at our present growth rate, it will take us 30 years to get to where Thailand is. A population of 160 Million; Of those, 70 to 90 million (equivalent to our current population) will live below the poverty line; Our national debt is estimated to be at US$200B (compared to US$28B when Marcos fled, and US$53B today); We will be competing, not against Thailand or even Vietnam , but against Bangladesh ; We will be the most corrupt nation in Asia , if not in the world (we're already ranke...

What You Need to Know About Leptospirosis

After the flood brought about by tropical storm Ondoy (international codename Ketsana), the Philippines Department of Health (DOH) recorded 375 confirmed cases of leptospirosis with 28 patients already died from the disease. So, what is this so-called leptospirosis and where does it come from? Leptospirosis (also known as Weil's disease, Weil's syndrome, canicola fever, canefield fever, nanukayami fever, 7-day fever, "Fort Bragg fever," and "Pretibial fever") is a bacterial zoonotic disease caused by spirochaetes of the genus Leptospira that affects humans and a wide range of animals, including mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. Leptospirosis is transmitted by the urine of an infected animal and is contagious as long as it is still moist. Although rats, mice and voles are important primary hosts, a wide range of other mammals including dogs, deer, rabbits, hedgehogs, cows, sheep, and even certain marine mammals are ...

Is it right to blame the government for an incompetent rescue and relief operations for typhoon Ondoy victims?

by: Fatimah As for me, I don't want to criticize the government's way in handling our current situation. from the way it looks, it may seems that their efforts may not be enough but i believe that they are doing the best they can to help these people who were greatly affected by the typhoon Ondoy. even if there are really some irregularities or mistakes that took place during their rescue missions, lets not blame them for no one wished for this thing to happen. lets also remember that many of our men from the different government institutions risks their lives in order to save our people. There’s also several people from our local government who never failed in offering themselves in order to take part in rendering aid and support to those who were affected by this incident. My point is, let’s try not to depend only on our government when a tragic event like this takes place. because we all know that our gove...

What to do with flood-damaged vehicles

The calamities brought about by typhoon Ondoy and typhoon Pepeng caused a lot of damages to properties and even cars. For those who own cars, here are some tips for car-owners or passengers on what to do in case they encounter floods on the road, and how to respond when their vehicle is damaged in a flood. 1. Park it somewhere safe. Park your car on high-ground or places where floods are not likely to hit. Even if you don't know what will happen when a storm of flood hits, this is your best bet. 2. Avoid flood waters. If you are in traffic and floods are rising, turn off the engine, get out, and lock the car. Do not try to wade into the floods. Go to a safe area while keeping an eye out for your car. It is not safe to stay inside a car while flood waters are raging, as this will also require you to struggle out of a car and climb on top of your vehicle. It is not safe to stay on top of a car. 3. Document what is happening. If you have a camera an...

The Importance of Breakfast for our Brain

I’d like to cite here an article written by Cory Quirino in her column Inside Out. It tackles about the importance of breakfast to reinforce brain power. It says that people who started the day with empty stomach have low blood sugar levels. When you have lower sugar levels in your blood, your brain will be acting slowly as well. Why is it? Because our brain’s main source of energy is glucose. Sugar in the body is called glucose. But glucose should not be coming from white stuff such as white flour, bread, pasta, or cakes but rather it should come from the right source of carbohydrate such as complex carbohydrates, leafy green vegetables, and fruits. If you’re really into breads and pastas, it should be the high fiber kind. Cereal is also good. You do not need to have high blood sugar levels since high blood sugar thickens the arteries leading to poor circulation. Maintain your sugar level moderately and it will just be okay.

32 Words That Can Change Your Life

By: Carina MacInnes We all have ways of testing opportunities that enter our lives. Some of us just dive right in based on feeling, others walk straight into what they know is right by a gut feeling or intuition. And if it's not gut feelings or emotions that are the tests of opportunities, it is the logical mind persuading us to ignore those feelings and emotions and test it with our reality of reason. Most of us do not have a predetermined strategy for testing opportunities, or even more generally to test the actions we take and the choices we make in our lives. There is an easier way to determine if our choices we make and the opportunities we receive 'pass the test'. This simple 32 word statement of business ethics was first created in the 1930s and used to turn around a failing company. These four questions were applied by each employee to each and to every minute detail of the company's workings. This little list of four questions from Rotary International, a huma...
