Philippine authorities said Friday they were preparing for the worst as a typhoon was set to hit the nation's capital and nearby areas still reeling from storms that claimed more than 1,100 lives. Four more provinces in southern Luzon and the Bicol region have been placed under Storm Signal No. 3 as typhoon “Santi” accelerates while continuing to zoom in closer to Quezon province, the weather bureau said yesterday (Oct. 30). "Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes under signals #3, #2 and #1 are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures against flashfloods and landslides," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said. The weather bureau also warned those living along coastal areas to watch out for storm surges and big waves generated by the typhoon. by: Fatimah As for me, I don't want to criticize the government's way in handling our current situation. from the way it looks, it may seems that their efforts may not be enough but i believe that they are doing the best they can to help these people who were greatly affected by the typhoon Ondoy. even if there are really some irregularities or mistakes that took place during their rescue missions, lets not blame them for no one wished for this thing to happen. lets also remember that many of our men from the different government institutions risks their lives in order to save our people. There’s also several people from our local government who never failed in offering themselves in order to take part in rendering aid and support to those who were affected by this incident. For those who own cars, here are some tips for car-owners or passengers on what to do in case they encounter floods on the road, and how to respond when their vehicle is damaged in a flood. 1. Park it somewhere safe. Park your car on high-ground or places where floods are not likely to hit. Even if you don't know what will happen when a storm of flood hits, this is your best bet. 2.
